The Lastest Internet Craze of Blogging

What is this Latest Internet Craze of Blogging All About?

Blogging is a new term that I just became aware of recently.  Until I took this class I may have heard the name blogging every now and then, but had no idea that it was so popular.  I was just searching through some of the blogs on google and came across a blog that someone from the
United Kingdom had posted, I had no ideas it was so well known around the world.  When I typed in three different topics to search at least ten pages of hits came up for each category.  I typed in shopping, fitness, and shoes.  It took me a while to find a blog that I liked for each one of those categories, but I found them.

The blog that I liked the best on the topic of shoes was one that I could really relate to.  When I was reading the blog I felt like someone was talking about me when I go shopping for shoes.  The lady who wrote this blog went shopping for a toaster oven and some work out clothes.  By the end of her shopping day she had bought some work out clothes, four pairs of shoes and no toaster oven.  I can relate to this blog because I do the exact same thing.  No matter what I go out shopping for, a new shirt, a pair of jeans, or even a present for someone else; I absolutely cannot walk past a shore store or a shoe section in a store.  I do not always buy a new pair of shoes when I go shopping, but I always think to myself that it cannot hurt to look.  I am a bargain shopper, I never buy anything full priced, but I do splurge or treat myself occasionally, so you never know what type of bargain you will find unless you look.

The other two blogs I found had something unique about them that attracted me to them.  For the fitness one there was a survey you could take to figure out your work out type and your dieting type.  I was curious to see how accurate the survey results would be, so I took one of them.  I took the work out survey and the results were fairy close to how I work out at the gym.  This blog also had a lot of helpful links on the side pertaining to all kinds of information about working out, dieting and nutrition.

The third blog that caught my attention was about shopping, particularly on-line shopping.  The person who wrote this blog made me feel as if I was reading my own thoughts out loud.  This blog pertained to frustrations that can happed when you shop on-line because you cannot try the item on, you cannot feel the material it is made out of and you just cannot tell through a picture if it is what you are looking for or not.  This blog just further proved my point about how bad online shopping can be.  It proves that nothing compares to going out and shopping for things in person.

The blogs that really caught my attention were the ones that I could relate to.  Ones in which I was able to understand exactly what the writer was talking about.  A good blog, for me, is either one that shares a personal story or one that I can relate to my own life.

“Growing Up Game” Brenda Peterson

Right after reading the first sentence I immediately thought when does this story take place?  Moose meet in exchange for half of your tuition?  Sure enough, the very next sentence read 1969.  Peterson brings up a lot of interesting points.  There is one point inparticular that reminds me of an experience that happened in my life.  The line that struck me is when it states, “I look up and saw the flensed body of a doe; it swung gently, slapping my face.  I felt then as i do even now when eating game: horror and awe and kinship.” (p.116).  If I was out in my garage engaged in pretend play and stood up and hit a dead deer that is hanging, I would scream and run out of there as fast as I could.  Being that my father was never a hunter or anyone in my family for that matter, that is not somehting I am used to.  If I was raised up around that type of life style then my reaction might be different.  I bring this quote up because it reminds me of an experince I had in high school when I worked at a pizza parlor.  My boss was an avid hunter.  During the winter time he would hang up three or four deer heads that he had preservered, I am not sure the technical name for it, in the restaurant’s dinning room.  When I would go out into the dinning room to deliver food or clear tables I would always feel as if the deer were staring at me.  When I had to walk under them to go into the back closet I thought the whole head was going to fall off of the wall and come crashing down on me.  I do not know why, but those heads really freaked me out.  My boss knew how uncomfortable they made me so everytime I went out to the dinning room he would look at me and laugh because he could see in my face how I would tense up.  I did not think it was funny at the time but now looking back I can see how watching me might have been some what amusing.
